2008 Estate Pinot Noir, Napa Valley, Milliken Creek Vineyard

The Pinot Noir vineyard is on the same ranch as our new winery. This vineyard is in a Region I growing area and considered the coolest of the three regions in the Napa Valley. There is one to two feet of topsoil over a deep gravel/loam base; a dream combination. And although this is 100% Pinot Noir from a single vineyard, it is not a onedimensional wine due to the fact that we have planted three different clones which give it complexity and depth. We consulted with winemakers we respect for the Pinot Noir they make and planted a combination of clones which would complement each other: 50% clone 777, 25% clone 667 and 25% 115.

This Pinot Noir has appealing ruby red highlights with bright strawberry and kiwi flavors. The mid palate flavors comprise sensual, round yet elegantly balanced tannins combined with scents of raspberries and cream. The character of the vineyard is expressed with aromas of fresh berry, red cherries and delicate spices Food Pairing: Either a mid-week meal of smoked chicken pizza or an elegant grilled salmon filet on the weekend work well when paired with this Pinot. Drink a glass paired with pesto pasta or grilled summer vegetables.

Winemakers Notes:“Our new winery sits right in the middle of Milliken Creek Vineyard, aptly named after the creek that runs through the property. The magic of this vineyard is three-fold; this cool little pocket of the Napa Valley is a Region 1 growing area, a designation for the coolest climate in which grapes can be commercially grown. This is just perfect for Pinot Noir. Secondly, our ability to blend from the three clones planted here (50% 777, 25% 667 and 25% 115) allow the finished product to be multi-dimensional. And last but certainly not least, a dream combination of loose topsoil over a loamy base makes for perfect soil conditions.”
