2006 Founder's Art Reserve Cabernet - GOLD MEDALS: SF Chronicle and SF Int'l Wine Competitions

2006 Founder's Art Reserve Cabernet - GOLD MEDALS: SF Chronicle and SF Int'l Wine CompetitionsOur most prized Otro Rancho Vineyard, located along a rugged hillside of Napa’s famed Howell Mountain, provides the robust and expressive fruit for this wine. This picturesque vineyard produces clusters with intense fruit flavors, concentrated aromas and a deep extraction of color.  Our winemaking objective is to create a harmonic balance of fruit, tannin and spice, while preserving the unique terroir-driven elements expressed in the grapes from this special vineyard.

In this wine, aromas of violets, cedar cigar box and fresh blackberries provide a compelling opening impression.  The first sip reveals more of the same, now enhanced by exotic spice flavors of cardamom, turmeric, and cumin.  An earthy, old-world thread is woven through this mélange of fruit and spice, making Founder’s Art a truly rewarding wine to savor, contemplate and pair with your favorite, full-flavored meals.

Vintage Notes:2006 was a dramatic vintage for grape growing in the Napa Valley, with a deluge of wet weather bringing in the new year. Napa’s long and rainy winter was followed by a mild summer interrupted by a two-week heat wave in July. As the growing season drew to a close, cooler temperatures returned, allowing the grapes to slowly develop complex, nuanced flavors while maintaining acidity; all while brix readings marched steadily upward towards perfect ripeness.
