The Rawls vineyard is located in the northern portion of the Napa Valley, within the Calistoga sub-appellation. The vineyard is distinguished by its volcanic soil, high temperatures up to 100 degrees during the day and cool nights during the growing season. This wide diurnal swing from hot days to cool nights provides perfect conditions for growing expressive Sauvignon Blanc fruit. This vineyard has proven itself over the years to produce wines with structure, complexity, and bold fruit.
The 2017 growing season was hot and dry. This allowed the inherently thick-skinned Sauvignon Blanc grapes to develop early and get harvested early. This vintage was marked by the tragic Wine Country fires that began on the evening of October 7th. Our Sauvignon Blanc and most of our other varietals were harvested before the fires began. Safe in our cellar, these grapes were made into wine without incident or any adverse effects. In spite of the devastating fires, the 2017 grape harvest turned out excellent fruit from which we made great wine.
