The 2013 vintage brought us a warm dry spring, which in turn produced an early bud break. This phenomenon helped with canopy vigor and berry size, creating ideal conditions for flowering. 2013 will be remembered as a truly outstanding vintage, with structured tannins. In addition, this harvest yielded nearly double the tonnage compared to the last few vintages in these vineyards, with a very favorable balance of acidity and fruit. After de-stemming and crushing, we fermented these Merlot grapes in stainless steel tanks for just shy of three weeks. The wine spent 23 months in a mix of new and neutral oak. This Merlot, which has the body and structure of a Cabernet, produces flavors of black cherry, plum, chocolate, and herbs.
