The source of our 2014 Grenache is the Gianelli Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills. The Vineyard is located 2000 feet above Sea Level. Although daytime temperatures during the growing season tend to be between75 and 85 degrees, the coolness of the evenings helps to naturally increase the acidity of the grapes, ultimately resulting in balanced fruit.
The 2014 vintage was phenomenal for the Sierra Foothills and the surrounding grape growing regions in California. The color of the fruit was outstanding, the extractions were fantastic, and the fruit had great character and structure. Additionally, the lack of late-season rain and a long growing season helped ensure optimum fruit maturity.
Our Grenache is a classic representation of the varietal, displaying flavors of bright strawberries, raspberries and notes of white pepper. The bold fruit could be compared with a fruit roll up! It is juicy and mouthwatering with a finish that lingers for several minutes. Grape clusters were harvested by hand at night and cold soaked for 5 days. The berries were lightly pressed then fermented dry in open top tanks. This process allows extraction of color, structure and flavor.
If you are a bold-fruit wine lover, this is the wine for you. Indian food with its spicy curries and powerful flavors will do the trick. The intense flavor profile of Indian food will knock the bold flavors of our Grenache up several notches. You’ll enjoy the rich fruit essence and spice components of this wine as the finish lingers on your palate.
