The near-perfect 2016 growing season started early, saw ideal weather conditions throughout, and wrapped up as the valley’s first significant fall rainstorm arrived on October 14th. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August, and then a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, vineyards were able to progress to perfect ripeness.
The Reinke Vineyard lies in Napa Valley’s Carneros district, one ofthe finest winegrowing regions in the world for cultivating thin-skinned Chardonnay grapes. The cooling breezes off the San PabloBay allow the grapes a longer hang time in which to develop flavor and intensity, without sacrificing acidity and true balance.
The Chardonnay grapes used for this wine were slowly fermented in stainless steel tanks for three weeks. This process of cool fermentation captures the delicate aromatics of the varietal, preserves the fruit, and keeps it very fresh. This wine was not exposed to oak,nor did it go through Malolactic fermentation. We limited all winemaking interventions in an effort to showcase the beautiful, richfruit of this grape. The flavor profile of this Chardonnay consists of peach, lemon, melon and grass.
This Chardonnay has the structure to pair beautifully with a varietyof fresh, spicy, and acidic foods.Try this wine with Gazpacho made from vine-ripened tomatoes, cucumber, red bell pepper, red onion, jalapeno, and garlic clove. This chilled soup can be garnished with garlic croutons, chopped cilantro, and a wedge of avocado. The intense flavor profile of the aforementioned ingredients will bring forward the magnificent fruit of this Chardonnay and highlight the wine’s long fruit finish.
